Frequently-Asked Questions

In response to some of the questions we've received in private e-mail, we thought it would be helpful to post an FAQ, which we will update from time to time.

Q: May I link to your blog?

A: You bet! If you link to us, please be sure to leave a comment or send us an e-mail so we know you have linked to us, and so we can take a look at your blog.

Q: Will you link to my blog?

A: Typically, we try to link to the blogs that either a) we read frequently, or b) have useful information that might help other foster or fost-adopt parents. If you have a blog that discusses foster parenting, former foster children or issues facing social workers, please leave a comment or send us an e-mail and we'll have a look.

Q: Who are you guys, anyway?

A: We are a queer couple in the process of trying to form a foster family. We are deliberately somewhat vague about our real identities and location, simply because we want to protect our privacy and the privacy of our future foster child(ren).

Q: What religion are you?

A: We are Jewish. FosterEema also often draws spiritual meaning from other traditions as well.

Q: What made you decide to become foster parents?

A: The answer to this is somewhat complicated, but it boils down to wanting to help kids in need and to make the world a better place.

Q: What type of children are you looking for?

A: We are most interested in girls ages 6 to 18, since we both work full-time and wanted to make sure our child(ren) would be in school.

Q: How long have you been foster parents?

A: We started the licensing process in March of 2006. We were licensed in May, and our first foster placement was in June.

Q: I am thinking of becoming a foster parent. What advice would you give me?

A: Do a lot of research to make sure this is something you want to do. Be prepared to be a strong advocate for yourself, your family and your children. When you are ready to move forward, contact your local Dept. of Social Services or other local foster parent organizations, and they'll give you information on the specific application procedures for your county.

Hi! I just started a blog, I am a single queer Jewish butch dyke in Northern CA hoping to become licensed as a foster parent by fall (done with my MAPP training & CPR and some of the paperwork but putting off the homestudy until I've been at my job for a few more months). OK that I linked to you from my blog? I would like to keep in touch!
